What interesting projects have you used it on? RAS Mapper and the new dereferencing tools make floodplain mapping in 1D or 1D/2D very simple – basic model setup can be achieved in a short time. I’m very familiar with HEC-RAS and find it very easy to set up a model (even in 1D/2D). The reference and user manuals are excellent and the error reporting is also very useful in fixing errors and troubleshooting. Plus, it’s free! What are your favourite features? Why do you choose to use it over other software? ![]() Within these studies we examined the impact of raising existing flood embankments on flood risk to the site and elsewhere in the catchment. ![]() I have also recently used the 1D/2D functions to look at floodplain inundation and floodplain depth/velocity/volume as part of flood risk assessments. It gives us reliable estimates of design flow depths and velocities. I have used HEC-RAS for a range of purposes. We use the 1D/2D capabilities as part of scour assessments and scour protection design projects.
